Construction Defect Forum Features Judges, Builders, Developers, Insurers & Attorneys March 3-4
LOS ANGELES, Feb. 3, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Despite economic troubles, construction defect litigation endures and in some areas appears to be growing, according to Tom Hagy, CEO of HB Litigation Conferences. In this litigation, he explains, the stakes are big and the players are under pressure to improve case outcomes while saving money.
To educate attorneys and in-house counsel on many of the most urgent issues in construction, HB has announced it will hold the Construction Litigation Leaders' Forum on March 3-4, 2011, at the Ritz-Carlton in Marina del Rey, Calif.
Faculty of the program – comprising specialists from the building and insurance industry as well as leading law firms and sitting judges – have been assembled by the conference chairs Jeffrey Masters, Esq. of Cox, Castle & Nicholson LLP; Richard Glucksman, Esq. of Chapman, Glucksman, Dean, Roeb & Barger, APC; Kenneth Kasdan, Esq. of Kasdan Simonds Weber & Vaughan LLP; and Rose Madruga, Esq., Vice President and General Manager, Zurich NA. Judges on the faculty are Hon. Victoria Gerrard Chaney, California Court of Appeal, Second District, Division One; Hon. Thierry Patrick Colaw, Superior Court of California, County of Orange; Hon. Keith Davis, Superior Court of California San Bernardino County; Hon. Vincent J. O'Neill, Jr., Superior Court of California, County of Ventura; and Hon. Topics at this year's Forum will include conventional insurance coverage claims, Wrap insurance, how to handle mixed and alternative claims, right-to-repair statutes, emerging legal and technical construction defect issues, the impact of insolvency and bankruptcy, issues relating to subcontractors, judicial perspectives on the litigation, and how to avoid ethics violations as insurance carrier-selected defense counsel.
In addition, the faculty will present a mock presentation designed to help them prepare for trial.
In addition to the judicial faculty, industry speakers include representatives from Markel West Insurance Services, ACE USA, Chartis Casualty Insurance, Western National Builders, Zurich North America, HDI-Gerling America Insurance Company, D. R. Horton America's Builder, and OneBeacon Insurance.
Hagy said HB is offering complimentary registrations to a limited number of in-house counsel in recognition of tighter corporate budgets. HB is also offering discounts to private attorneys impacted by challenging economic times, Hagy said.
