Consolidated Credit announces Halloween photo contest -- with cash prizes
The "Frightfully Frugal" Contest is to Die for
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Oct. 2, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Want to be a mummy for Halloween? You can wrap yourself in gauze for a few bucks, or you go to Amazon.com and order a handmade outfit with built-in fans to keep you cool – for the whopping price $1,346.18.
Consolidated Credit believes Halloween fun doesn't mean spending a scary amount. To prove it, the 20-year-old credit counseling organization is running a "Frightfully Frugal" Halloween photo contest – and the winners receive cash.
Starting Friday, Oct. 4, you can upload a photo of your most delightful or frightful do-it-yourself costume to Consolidated Credit Facebook page for your chance to win. But the costume must cost $15 or less.
If you're both frugal and creative, you'll win five times that amount. The first-place winner receives $75, second place $50 and third place $25. All winners get an autographed copy of Power Up: Taking Charge of Your Financial Destiny, the money-management and debt-busting guide from Consolidated Credit's founder Howard Dvorkin, a renowned CPA who's been featured as a finance expert on FOX News, CBS Nightly News, CNN and countless other media outlets.
"Halloween is one of the busiest shopping holidays, with people spending upwards of $50 just on costumes," says Dvorkin. "We want to show consumers how easy it is to create a great costume on a budget." The contest requires entrants to share a photo of a homemade Halloween costume that was put together for $15 or less. "We're hopping people will frighten us with their thrifty creativity and resourcefulness," adds Dvorkin.
To enter the contest, upload the photo and include a description of the costume along with the total cost. Once the photo is added to the Facebook voting page the entrant shares it with friends and family asking them to vote for their submission. The three entrants with the most votes on October 31st win!
If you reuse, recycle or even up-cycle your costume in an effort to keep your budget out of the grave, this contest is for you!
