Connecticut Captures Sun's Rays and Solar Flare

DARIEN, Conn., July 19, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The sun is shining brightly in Connecticut these days and thanks to a unique new pilot program it will soon be even easier for Connecticut homeowners to turn those rays into energy savings. 

Solarize Connecticut is a pilot residential solar program which aggregates homeowners across communities to offer discounted pricing for residential solar power - meaning homeowners can add solar panels to their homes more cheaply and the greater the number of participants the greater the savings for all.

This pilot program, which emulates similar programs in Oregon and Massachusetts, is being honored by Soluxe Solar, a Connecticut based solar company, with their Solar Flare, a weekly award honoring companies, individuals or programs helping advance the solar cause.

"Solarize Connecticut has tremendous potential to really change the face of solar in the state," says Soluxe Solar CEO Jeffrey Mayer.  "It not only lowers the upfront cost of solar for homeowners but also encourages community participation by lowering the cost even further depending upon the number of homeowners who choose to participate.  It is exciting for the Solar community and hopefully as this program, and others like it around the country continue to grow and prove to be successful, we will see more and more states creating similar initiatives."

Westport is one of four Connecticut municipalities selected to participate in the pilot program.  The town currently has 845 participating households which have reduced energy consumption by 20 percent and has built partnerships with 19 community groups and non-profits.
