Connected Home Energy Products to Reach 2.5 million Units per Year in Europe by 2017
EDINBURGH, Scotland, February 5, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --
The European market for Connected Home energy products has reached over 0.5 million cumulative sales in 2014 and will grow to 2.5 million systems installed annually by 2017 under Delta-ee's central scenario. Connected Home energy products, as defined by Delta-ee, include smart heating controls, remote diagnostic, electricity tariff optimisation, optimisation of onsite generation and non-energy gateways with possible energy add-ons.

Germany will lead the way with just under 1 million dwellings equipped annually with connected home energy products by 2017. The UK is predicted to be the second biggest European country with a number of 700,000 installations per year. The Netherlands and France will see a slower but significant growth collectively with a further 700,000 annual products under our central scenario.
Arthur Jouannic, Senior Analyst at Delta-ee said: "It isn't a matter of if anymore, it is a matter of who will manage to bring the right customer proposition in each country, while creating upstream values for the industry."
These are just some of the findings from the latest research published under the Delta-ee Connected Home Service. The detailed market analysis gets under the skin of the market by revealing who the key players are, what type of products are the most attractive, what are the key growth factors from the policy, industry and customer sides and this for each of the leading European countries in this space.
Arthur added "Getting to scale quickly will allow connected home providers to generate revenue from new services and to reduce costs from core offerings. RWE in Germany, British Gas in the UK and Eneco in the Netherlands are already on this quest for volume and are responsible for a large part of the 2014 installations." As each country has its own heating specificities, these energy suppliers and their partners have created tailored solutions for their customers. Smart thermostats replacing simple controls are for example likely to spread over the UK and the Netherlands, while Germany - and its higher quality heating control market - will see more multi-zonal connected TRV systems over the next 3 years.
