Congressman Quayle Talks With Wolters Kluwer Pharma Solutions About Importance of Health Information
Representative Ben Quayle of Arizona meets with Pharma Solutions executives to discuss technology and the importance of good access to health information
PHOENIX, Aug. 25, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Wolters Kluwer Pharma Solutions, Inc., a leading provider of scientific information and analytics to pharmaceutical and healthcare professionals, today announced that Rep. Ben Quayle (R-AZ, 3rd district) met this week with its healthcare analytics management team to discuss the company's role in the delivery of health information in America. Congressman Quayle visited the company's offices on Camelback Road in Phoenix to learn more about the current state of the health information industry and how this information can be used by state and federal governments to improve health delivery and safety.
As chairman of the Science, Space and Technology Committee's Subcommittee on Technology and Innovation, Rep. Quayle wants to gain more insight into the health information business and talked with Pharma Solutions as one of the industry leaders that also happens to be based in his constituency. The Congressman met with Pharma Solutions joint presidents Bob Jansen and Michelle Woker and others from the Phoenix-based healthcare analytics team including Cathy Betz, Vice President, Government Affairs, and the company's Arizona lobbyists, TriAdvocates, where he received a presentation on health information technology.
"One of the things we shared with Congressman Quayle is our conviction that preserving good access to health information is vitally important to America's health as a country," said Bob Jansen, president of Wolters Kluwer Pharma Solutions' healthcare analytics business. "The Congressman also shares the conviction that transparent and actionable health information is in the best interest of public health."
The meeting also addressed the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling in June that individual states may not prohibit the use of information about physician healthcare practices in the marketing of medicines. The court's decision holds that a Vermont statute violates the First Amendment by banning the voluntary exchange of information on a matter of public importance.
During the meeting, Rep. Quayle also discussed Pharma Solutions' role as a major Phoenix employer, and the importance of companies like Pharma Solutions that bring jobs to the local economy. "Your business provides the economic diversification that we need to grow in Arizona so we are not beholden to the boom and bust of the real estate market," the Congressman commented. Ben Quayle is a first term Congressman from Arizona and the son of former vice president Dan Quayle.
