Congressman Fattah's Statement on May Jobs Number
WASHINGTON, June 6, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Congressman Chaka Fattah (D-PA), a senior Democratic on the House Appropriations Committee and Ranking Member on the Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science and related agencies, released the following statement ontoday's monthly jobs report:
"America's road to recovery continues with news today from the Department of Labor that the U.S. economy has regained all the jobs lost in the recession. With the economy having added 217,000 jobs in May - a slightly higher number than expected, the unemployment rate remains at 6.3 percent. This news is confirmation that President Obama's economic policies translate to sound economic leadership.
"May's job numbers also reflect the fourth straight month that job gains have topped 200,000 which is the longest tract since October 1999 -January 2000.
"While these numbers show that we are on the right track, it's essential that we in Congress do our job to get more Americans back to work. I call on my colleagues, let's get to work on passing legislation that will create jobs, increase the minimum wage and improve our nation's economy."
