Congressman Fattah to Represent U.S. Congress at International Brain Technology Conference in Tel Aviv
Trip will support Fattah's push for increased global cooperation around neuroscience
WASHINGTON, March 9, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- U.S. Congressman Chaka Fattah (PA-02) will travel to Israel on Tuesday, March 10, to represent the United States at the second annual international brain technology conference, Brain Tech 2015. Fattah will be a featured speaker with leaders from some of the world's major brain initiatives on the panel, "Global Meeting of the Minds: Brain Initiatives Around the World." His remarks will outline the United States' efforts to elevate brain research as a national priority and the progress of the U.S. BRAIN Initiative; joining Fattah on the panel will be representatives from the United Kingdom, Canada, Israel, and Switzerland.
The trip will further Fattah's efforts to expand the United States' cooperation and collaboration with other nations as it seeks to make significant headway in fighting brain disease and disorders. Since becoming the top Democrat on the House Appropriations Subcommittee with funding jurisdiction for the nation's science agencies, Congressman Fattah has sought to prioritize increased funding for—and attention to—brain research. Through the Fattah Neuroscience Initiative, he has worked successfully to establish the Interagency Working Group on Neuroscience (IWGN) which coordinates neuroscience research activities across the U.S. government.
While in Israel, Fattah will also hold meetings with former Israeli President Shimon Peres, with Eitan Yudilevich, Executive Director of the BIRD Foundation, and will receive a briefing on the status of the Iron Dome in a meeting with Daniel Shapiro, the U.S. Ambassador to Israel. Additionally, he will visit Technion–Israel Institute of Technology and the Weizmann Institute of Science.
Brain Tech 2015 will bring together government officials, investors, neuroscientists, executives, start-ups, and government leaders to discuss cutting-edge brain technologies from Israel and around the world. An 11-term Congressman, Fattah is the only U.S. elected official addressing the conference.
