Congressman Fattah Statement on Vote in Support of the Continuing Resolution to Fund Government
WASHINGTON, Sept. 17, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Congressman Chaka Fattah (D-PA), a Senior Member on the House Appropriations Committee and lead Democrat on the Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science and related agencies, issued the below statement following his "yes" vote in support of a Continuing Resolution that will fund the government through December 11, 2014:
"Today I voted in support of the Continuing Resolution (CR) to fund the government through December 11, 2014. This is not a perfect solution, nor is it a long-term answer, but we must take the necessary steps to ensure our federal workforce and federal agencies have the resources necessary to continue running the government without interruption. I remain committed to a constructive, bipartisan solution to FY 2015 government funding; voting for the CR today is a step in that direction while providing critical funding to respond to the Ebola outbreak, increasing funding for the VA disability claims backlog, and funds to address the rise in unaccompanied children at the southwest border.
"Additionally, I voted for the McKeon Amendment that will authorize the Department of Defense to train and equip appropriately vetted moderate Syrians. This amendment is not an authorization of military force, and does not put combat forces on the ground. Instead, it allows the President the flexibility to confront the threat in Syria from a humanitarian, diplomatic, political, and military vantage. I believe the President and Administration have come to this decision only after thoughtful, careful deliberation, and Congress must give them the resources they need to counter this growing threat."
