Congressman Fattah Statement on October Jobs Report
WASHINGTON, Nov. 7, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Congressman Chaka Fattah (D-PA), a Senior Member on the House Appropriations Committee and lead Democrat on the Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science and related agencies, issued the following statement on the October jobs numbers released today:
"Today our economy proved once again that it continues to grow stronger, and we have much to be optimistic about. The October jobs numbers reveal that the private sector added 209,000 jobs and the unemployment rate dropped to 5.8%—the lowest since July 2008. Altogether, the economy has now added 10.6 million jobs in 56 months of consecutive private sector job growth, extending the longest streak on record.
"Congress must work together so that the indisputable economic progress the country has made over these past four and a half years is not reversed through partisan gridlock. We know that the economy is set to have its best year of job growth and when legislators return to Washington next week, it is imperative that we get back to work on a middle-class agenda that will put more Americans back in the workforce and pass legislation that will build new ladders of opportunity for America's hardworking families. We have had bipartisan success on these measures before, including the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, a critical job growth bill signed by the President this summer that included significant portions of my Urban Jobs Act. As we finish the 113th Congress, I hope we can continue to find common ground on policies and solutions that will strengthen our economy."
