Congressman Fattah Statement on November Jobs Report
WASHINGTON, Dec. 4, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Congressman Chaka Fattah (PA-02), a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee, issued the following statement on the November 2015 jobs numbers released today:
"The November jobs report released today is another consequential step forward in the nation's economic recovery. The numbers reveal that the unemployment rate held steady at 5%, which remains the lowest in the last seven years, while the economy added 197,000 private sector jobs. Further, the country is continuing its longest streak of private sector job growth ever—now at 69 months.
"As we head into the last weeks of 2015, today's report is great news for our economy. However, it is important that we also focus on the number of job openings in our country—as of September the U.S. had more than 5.5 million available jobs. These are jobs that can be filled, but only if we focus on policies that promote jobs training, skills development, and efforts to successfully match employers with job seekers. If we prioritize matching Americans with the existing jobs, I am confident we can increase the rate of hiring and move the unemployment rate even lower."
