Congressman Fattah Statement on May Jobs Report
WASHINGTON, June 5, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Congressman Chaka Fattah (PA-02), a Senior Member on the House Appropriations Committee and lead Democrat on the Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science and related agencies, issued the following statement on the May 2015 jobs numbers released today:
"Today's jobs report reveals that the unemployment rate held relatively steady at 5.5% while the economy added a robust 262,000 private sector jobs in May. Not only do these job gains continue the longest streak on record of private sector job growth—at 63 months—but they also represent the strongest month of job growth so far in 2015.
"Our economy is on the upswing and I commend the Obama administration for their sustained efforts around job creation and job training. We know that key provisions of the Urban Jobs Act, which I helped incorporate into the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act passed last year, are making strides in helping equip our youth with the education, skills, and training required to compete in this economy."
