Congressman Fattah Statement on January Jobs Report
WASHINGTON, Feb. 6, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Congressman Chaka Fattah (D-PA), a Senior Member on the House Appropriations Committee and lead Democrat on the Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science and related agencies, issued the following statement on the January 2015 jobs numbers released today:
"Today's jobs report is more good news for the American economy. The January report showed that 267,000 private sector jobs were added last month with an unemployment rate of 5.7%. This report marks the eleventh consecutive month of job gains exceeding 200,000—a streak that has not occurred in the last 10 years. This also adds to the longest consecutive stretch of private sector job growth on record, now at 59 months.
"This is both a strong and optimistic first jobs report to lead us into the new year. Now, Congress must do its part to continue the momentum. Earlier this week, the President released a budget proposal that would sustain our country's economic growth by investing in policies that would lift our middle-class and fund programs that prioritize training and education for American workers. I support this budget and look forward to working with my House colleagues to ensure Congress is doing its part to push our economy—and our country—forward."
