Congressman Fattah Statement on February Jobs Report
WASHINGTON, March 4, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Congressman Chaka Fattah (PA-02), a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee, issued the following statement on the February 2016 jobs numbers released today:
"Today's job report is more good news for the American economy. In February, 230,000 jobs were added, while the unemployment rate remained the same at 4.9%—still the lowest on record in eight years. February's job report also revealed that private employment growth was revised upwards in both December and January—further proof that our economy is on the right track forward. This month's report extended what was already the longest streak of job growth on record—now at 72 months.
"This economic growth can only be sustained if the Congress works together to advance smart legislation that builds our middle-class, prioritizes programs that build a skilled labor force, and works to raise the minimum wage. We must also continue to strengthen our efforts to boost job creation within groups where higher rates of unemployment rates still persist—specifically African Americans and our country's youth population.
"Last month the President released a budget that emphasizes economic growth and investment in programs and policies that will lift our middle-class families. I hope that Congress can come together in a bipartisan fashion to pass a budget that works for all Americans, invests in our future generations, and prepares the United States to compete in the growing global economy."
