Congressman Fattah Statement on December Jobs Report
WASHINGTON, Jan. 8, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Congressman Chaka Fattah (PA-02), a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee, issued the following statement on the December 2015 jobs numbers released today:
"With the news of today's incredibly strong December jobs report, we can confidently look back at 2015 as a year that was able to sustain the vigorous economic growth that our country needed. The numbers released today show that 275,000 private sector jobs were added last month, while the unemployment rate held steady at 5%. Not only did this surpass expectations, it continues the record streak of job growth, now at 70 months.
"In 2015, the United States added an impressive 2.65 million jobs to the economy; only one other year since 1999 have we experienced such robust job growth. Philadelphia also had a banner year of job growth, as recent city data reveals that there are more jobs now in the city than at any point over the last 15 years. Further, Philadelphia's unemployment rate has dropped to 5.9%—the lowest since before the recession.
"Both nationally and locally, our economy is benefitting from strong job creation policies that help our middle class. As we start the new year, I look forward to continuing to champion an agenda in Congress that creates 21st century jobs, and ensures the American workforce has the skills and education necessary to compete for these positions."
