Congressman Fattah Statement on December Jobs Report
WASHINGTON, Jan. 9, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Congressman Chaka Fattah (D-PA), a Senior Member on the House Appropriations Committee and lead Democrat on the Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science and related agencies, issued the following statement on the December 2014 jobs numbers released today:
"With the reporting of the December jobs numbers, we have every reason to be optimistic about the state of our growing U.S. economy. The December jobs report showed that the private sector gained 240,000 jobs in December, with the unemployment rate dropping to 5.6%. These numbers continue the longest streak on record—58 consecutive months of private sector job growth. Further, this final jobs report of the year underscores the sustained growth of the labor market over the last 12 months; 2014 has been the best year for job growth in 15 years with nearly 3 million jobs added.
"Earlier this week, I reflected on my many accomplishments over the last two years, but there is much more work to do. The new Congress offers ample opportunity to pass legislation and pursue initiatives that further grow our economy, boost the middle class, train and educate more job seekers, and create new high-wage jobs. As these efforts continue, I hope together, as a Congress, we can find common ground and work together with the Administration on policies that invest in American jobs and increase our country's competitive edge."
