Congressman Fattah Statement on $2.5 Million TIGER Grant for Roosevelt Boulevard Study
WASHINGTON, Sept. 10, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ --Congressman Chaka Fattah (PA-02), a Senior Member on the House Appropriations Committee, released a statement on the announcement by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) that the City of Philadelphia has been awarded $2.5 million for the Roosevelt Boulevard Multi-Modal Study. The DOT grant came from the National Infrastructure Investments or TIGER VI Discretionary Grants Program. In May, Fattah wrote to Transportation Secretary Foxx in strong support of the program:
"This TIGER funding will make headway on a long-term solution to improve the livability of the area, ease congestion, enhance safety, and ultimately lead to a more coordinated transit network for Philadelphia and its residents. Most importantly, this plan prioritizes public transit accessibility for North Philadelphia residents, many of whom have no access to a vehicle.
"A sustainable transit strategy for Roosevelt Boulevard is long overdue and with this grant, in addition to the support of SEPTA, PennDOT, and the City of Philadelphia, a master plan will finally be realized. I am proud to have worked with my colleagues, Congressman Bob Brady and Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz, in helping secure the funding to advance this critical transportation project in our city."
