PHILADELPHIA, Jan. 17, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Congressman Chaka Fattah (PA-02) will join thousands in the Philadelphia community to mark the life and powerful legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. throughout the holiday weekend. Fattah will deliver public remarks, participate in service projects, and make appearances over the next three days in recognition of Dr. King.

Saturday, January 17, 2015

  • In the evening, Congressman Fattah will attend the opening gala fundraiser celebrating the Represent: 200 Years of African American Art exhibit at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

Sunday, January 18

  • On Sunday morning, the Congressman will attend the Association of Blacks in Criminal Justice (Pennsylvania Chapter) Annual Justice Sunday event at Haven Peniel United Methodist Church; Fattah serves as an honorary co-chair of the event.

Monday, January 19

  • On Monday morning, Fattah will attend Girard College's 20th Annual Greater Philadelphia Martin Luther King Day of Service signature project
  • Later Monday morning he will participate in the annual City Year Service Day at William D. Kelley Elementary School in Strawberry Mansion.  Together with City Year Executive Director Ric Ramsey, City Year alumni, school partners, corporate sponsors, and other members of the Strawberry Mansion community, he will participate in school revitalization activities including mural paintings, mosaics, and light construction.
  • He will also join the Revive the Moment, Reclaim the Day activities at Universal Audenried Charter High School hosted by the Philadelphia Community of Leaders
  • The Congressman will join the National Bell Ringing Ceremony at the Liberty Bell Center, preceding the Philadelphia Martin Luther King, Jr. Association for Nonviolence's 33rd Annual Awards and Benefit Luncheon; Fattah serves as an honorary co-chair of the annual event.
