Congressman Fattah Responds to War Report
WASHINGTON, Dec. 16, 2010 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Congressman Chaka Fattah (D-PA) releases the following statement following today's report on the U.S. strategy in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
"Despite the many and significant challenges that confront our nation as the war in Afghanistan continues, today's report shows we are making progress on defeating al Qaeda. Success in Afghanistan is essential to ensuring our national security as we work with our allies to restore basic stability and security in the face of a resilient insurgency.
"The increase in the number of troops on the ground has proven to be a significant strategy in limiting the progress and power of the Taliban. Much work remains to wipe out al Qaeda in Afghanistan and Pakistan but our troops have proven over and over that they're up to the mission.
"I am confident that the Administration's July 2011 timetable to begin withdrawal of our troops will be met. After 110 months of fighting, the war in Afghanistan has lasted longer than America's war in Vietnam. As Americans we can all agree; this war must end. Too many lives have been lost, too many families have been impacted; it's time to start bringing our troops home."
