Congressman Fattah Mourns Passing of Augusta "Gussie" Clark
PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 13, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Congressman Chaka Fattah (PA-02) released the following statement on the passing of former Philadelphia City Councilwoman, Augusta "Gussie" Clark:
"Philadelphia lost a dedicated public servant today. As only the second African-American woman in Philadelphia to serve on the city council, Augusta "Gussie" Clark was a true pioneer, always ready to speak her mind and challenge the status quo. Her life was spent using her many talents as a librarian, lawyer, and public official to level the playing field in Philadelphia for those seeking to advance out of poverty.
"Gussie leaves behind a legacy of service and commitment to our community. Everyone she touched knew of her passion for education and she will be forever recognized for her tireless work improving the city's public schools. She was a friend and will be deeply missed. Today, my heart and prayers are with the Clark family as they mourn this tremendous loss."
