Congressman Fattah Encouraged By Falling Unemployment Rate
WASHINGTON, Aug. 2, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Congressman Chaka Fattah (D-PA), a Senior Member on the House Appropriations Committee releases the following statement on July's job numbers:
"The July job numbers released today reflect an economy that continues to strengthen. The jobless rate fell to 7.4%—the lowest since December 2008. The private sector added 162,000 jobs, marking the 41st month of consecutive private sector job growth. This sustained growth is good news for the country.
"Yet while today's report shows improvement, there are still almost four million private sector jobs waiting to be filled throughout the U.S. Our country has a real challenge to make sure that we have an educated, trained workforce that is meeting the needs of American employers. Too many job seekers do not have the skills necessary to fill these open positions, and it is critical that we find solutions to close this gap.
"My colleagues and I must work in tandem with the Administration on job training and workforce development programs. Together we must do more to match the skills of our country's workforce with the available jobs in all sectors."
