Congressman Fattah Congratulates Philadelphia Scientists on Research Awards
WASHINGTON, May 9, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Congressman Chaka Fattah (D-PA), a Member of the House Appropriations Committee's Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development issues releases the following statement honoring awardees' from the Department of Energy's Early Career Research Program.
"Congratulations to Daniel Gianola from the University of Pennsylvania and Mitra Taheri from Drexel University two of the 68 scientists from around the country who will receive financial awards for support of their research from the Department of Energy's Early Career Research Program. The awards underscore the Administration's investment in scientific research and development especially in the areas that are of critical importance for the Department of Energy and our nation.

I have had the privilege of visiting both of these labs as well as; the Idaho National Laboratory, the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in California and the Argonee National Laboratory in Chicago -- to see first-hand the incredible work being done at the nation's science and technology centers."
The five-year DOE awards are designed to bolster the nation's scientific workforce by providing financial support to exceptional researchers during the crucial early career years, when many scientists do their most formative work. The research awards also aim to provide incentives for scientists to focus on mission research areas that are a high priority for the Department of Energy.
