Congressman Fattah: Attack on Planned Parenthood is an Assault on Women's Health
WASHINGTON, March 23, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Congressman Chaka Fattah (D-PA), a member of the House Appropriations Committee, issues the following statement concerning Republican efforts to eliminate federal funding of Planned Parenthood:
"The House Republicans' attempt to do away with federal dollars for Planned Parenthood is nothing less than an assault upon personal healthcare for women disguised as budget cutting. My Republican colleagues know full well that not a single federal dollar ever goes toward any abortion services. And they know that the bulk of Planned Parenthood's work involves breast examinations, birth control, cervical cancer screening, family planning and other vital services for women – as well as services to men such as prostate cancer screening.
"Republicans are making a shameless and deliberately deceptive appeal to their radical base at the expense of women's health imperatives. I have voted, and will continue to vote, against elimination of federal resources for Planned Parenthood and in support of resources for women's health needs."
