Congressman Fattah Announces $2 Million in Grants from NSF for Penn and Academy of Natural Sciences
PHILADELPHIA, May 9, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Congressman Chaka Fattah (D-PA), the leading Democratic appropriator for the National Science Foundation (NSF) and advocate for government-funded research, announces five grants from NSF totaling $2,063,044 to the University of Pennsylvania and the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia.
In the latest round of research grants, four projects at Penn will receive $1.54 million. The largest is $600,000 for a Quantum Chemistry project under the CAREER program that supports junior faculty, especially women and under-represented minorities.
The Academy of Natural Sciences will receive $522,986 from the National Science Foundation for "CSBR: Natural History Collections: Digital Imaging of Molluscan Type Specimens at the Academy" under the direction of Gary Rosenberg.
The Congressman is the senior Democrat on the House Appropriations Committee's Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science and related agencies, which oversees NSF appropriations.
