Congressman David Schweikert (R-AZ) Joins Pass the Balanced Budget Amendment as National Co-Chairman
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Feb. 25, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Pass The Balanced Budget Amendment (Pass the BBA) is pleased to announce that Congressman David Schweikert (R-AZ) has agreed to serve as their National Co-Chairman. Schweikert represents the 5th District of Arizona, and has an exemplary record as a taxpayer advocate when he served in the Arizona legislature, fighting to reduce size and scope of state government while cutting the tax burden borne by Arizonans.
"Congressman Schweikert will be instrumental in our grassroots mission of educating and mobilizing the millions of Americans who are concerned with the burden of debt they are forcing on their children," said Ken Blackwell, National Chairman of Pass The BBA. "His leadership in the Arizona legislature, in Maricopa County and now in Congress demonstrate his commitment to taxpayers who deserve fiscal responsibility from their elected representatives. We are honored to have Congressman Schweikert join us, and we look forward to working with him," concluded Blackwell.
"I am proud to join Pass the BBA and I applaud their efforts. I believe that Congress needs the discipline of a balanced budget amendment to our Constitution, because it is the only thing that will rein in out of control spending. We just can't afford the debt and deficits that are crippling our economy, and I am committed to helping Pass the BBA change 'business as usual' in Washington," said Congressman Schweikert.
Pass the BBA is working with state legislatures to pass resolutions supporting a BBA, such as the resolution recently introduced in Utah by State Rep. Carl Wimmer (R-Herriman). Other resolutions are in the works in ND, SC, GA, MO, OH, AZ, MT, ME, VA and FL.
Phoenix-based Pass the BBA has emerged as the leading advocate for a BBA. Pass the BBA is an "outside the Beltway" non-partisan, grassroots movement actively gathering 5,000 to 10,000 voter signatures in all 435 congressional districts demanding fiscal accountability from their leaders. The Hon. Ken Blackwell and former Florida House Majority Leader Adam Hasner serve as Chairman and Vice-Chairman respectively.
