"I have just communicated with both the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter regarding the federal response to the threat posed by Hurricane Irene," Fattah said. "I assured Mayor Nutter that FEMA will work closely with the city to mount a coordinated response to the hurricane. Mayor Nutter, who told me that FEMA officials have been extraordinarily cooperative, has done an excellent job in preparing the local response to the storm. I and other federal officials are doing everything possible to position federal resources to deliver a swift and sure response, as well.
"As I told Mayor Nutter this evening, my office is available to work with the city in any way, shape or form to make sure that the city of Philadelphia receives whatever additional resources are necessary. Though there are going to be difficult hours ahead, with the city and FEMA working day and night, I'm confident that we're going to be able to see our way through."
