Conflict Minerals Impacts the Petroleum Industry
LAS VEGAS, Oct. 15, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Celebrating its 20th year, the American Petroleum Institute (API) features Source Intelligence's Dr. Michelle Turner to address conflict minerals. The API Storage Tank Conference is combining forces with a new API conference: API Valves and Piping Conference. Combined these two events October 15-16, 2014, will give attendees an opportunity to learn about new and existing industry codes and standards, and to hear about emerging trends from industry experts. This two-day conference offers over 65 sessions in 3 conference tracks addressing the needs of individuals involved in production systems, pipelines, terminals, refining and chemical manufacturing, and storage facilities. Each day focuses on presentations relevant to upstream, midstream and downstream players in the supply chain. A growing concern is new regulations impacting these suppliers such as conflict minerals disclosure requirements.
On August 22, 2012, the SEC adopted Section 1502 of the Dodd-Frank Rule requiring public companies to disclose whether their products contain conflict minerals: tin, tantalum, tungsten or gold (3TG) originating from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) or adjoining countries. According to the Government Office of Accountability, thousands of public companies will be impacted directly and hundreds of thousands of private companies or "non-issuers" will be impacted indirectly.
Dr. Michelle Turner of Source Intelligence will be presenting on October 16th, on how to be compliance ready for 2014 Conflict Minerals Reporting:
- Background of the legislation
- Conflict Minerals Compliance Industry Learnings
- Best Practices 5-Step Process to Compliance
- Immediate steps to meet your tracking and reporting requirements
Dr. Michelle Turner will be one of the panelists representing a cross stakeholder perspective from Source Intelligence, SaaS Compliance Platform and Supplier.
