Conference Board of Canada spotlight on health April and May

OTTAWA, April 8, 2015 /CNW/ - From senior care in Canada to medical tourism, The Conference Board of Canada will be releasing a number of research reports in April and May that explore different aspects of health in Canada. The Conference Board of Canada will also be hosting its Western Health Summit, May 11 - 12 in Edmonton.

Upcoming reports and events include:

• Should Canada's Hospitals Open Their Doors to Medical Tourists?—Health Care in Canada: An Economic Growth Engine
  Scheduled for release April 9, 2015, this briefing examines whether medical tourism can contribute to sustaining Canada's health care systems. It describes the current state of medical tourism in Canada and around the world, and the possible advantages and risks associated with medical tourism from the point of view of Canadian hospitals and health care systems.
• Understanding Health and Social Services for Seniors in Canada
  This report provides a comprehensive overview of seniors care in Canada in 2015. It presents the social and economic context of seniors' health in Canada; notes measures that are being or can be implemented to help individuals remain independent for as long as possible; looks at the services currently available; and explores challenges to seniors' care programs. The report will be released April 15, 2015.
• Calculating the Value of Investments in Internationally Educated Nurses Governance
  A new report examining the economic returns on investment in CARE Centre for Internationally Educated Nurses' bridge training program will be released the week of April 20.
• Moving Ahead: Taking Steps to Reduce Physical Inactivity and Sedentary Behaviour
  This is the third briefing in The Conference Board of Canada's Moving Ahead: Healthy Active Living in Canada research series published by the Canadian Alliance for Sustainable Health Care.  Canadians are inactive and sedentary most of the time. This briefing outlines strategies and programs to promote physical activity and deter excessive sedentary behaviour. To be released in early May.
• Western Health Summit 2015: Making Change That Makes a Difference
  This summit will focus on changes to improve the health care system, including top down and bottom up approaches that have succeeded elsewhere. Speakers include: Dr. Michael Gardam Chair, Medical Advisory Committee, University Health Network; Dr. Linda E. Carlson, Professor, Department of Oncology, Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary; and Jennifer MacKenzie, Chief Operating Officer, Vancouver Coastal Health.  The summit will be held May 11 - May 12, 2015, Edmonton, Alberta.
