GREENSBORO, N.C., Aug. 8, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- According to the 2017-2018 U.S. News & World Report, less than 2 percent of hospitals rated by U.S. News & World Report are ranked "High Performing" in the nine procedures and conditions that are commonly treated in a hospital. The ratings evaluate more than 4,500 hospitals nationwide. The hospitals were also rated high performing last year in what's called the, "Common Adult Procedure and Condition Ratings."

"For nearly three decades, we've strived to make hospital quality more transparent to health care consumers nationwide," said Ben Harder, managing editor and chief of health analysis at U.S. News. "By providing the most comprehensive data available, we hope to give patients the information they need to find the best care across a range of specialties."
The U.S. News ratings are based on several metrics including: risk-adjusted survival and readmission rates, volume, patient experience, patient safety, quality of nursing care and other care-related indicators.
The Best Hospitals procedure and condition ratings rely on Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services data for patients 65 and older, as well as survey data from the American Hospital Association and clinical registry data from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons.
Also, Annie Penn Hospital, Moses Cone Hospital and Wesley Long Hospital are collectively ranked as the sixth best hospital in the state. In this list, the hospitals are rated "High Performing" in treating the most challenging conditions in gastroenterology and GI surgery, and pulmonology.
