Condemnation of IS execution of Kurdish Peshmerga
WASHINGTON, Aug. 29, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following is a statement of the Kurdistan Regional Government:
On Thursday, August 28, 2014 the terrorists calling themselves the "Islamic State" (IS) released a video depicting the beheading of a Kurdish Peshmerga fighter. The video also showed captured Peshmerga being forced to denounce US-Kurdish cooperation against IS, as well as a parade of heavy military equipment looted from the collapsed Iraqi Security Forces in Mosul.
Sadly, this savagery is characteristic of these terrorists; such atrocities continue to happen on a daily basis in every city, village, and town under IS control. Their brutality against religious and ethnic minorities, particularly the sexual violence being committed against Yezidi and Christian women, has no place in this world.
Our thoughts are with the families of the martyred Peshmerga and the Peshmerga that have been captured by IS. We are forever indebted to their sacrifices.
As the video demonstrates, IS is extremely well-equipped with American-made armored personnel carriers (APCs), utility vehicles, and heavy weapons. The Kurdistan Regional Government calls on all enemies of terror and barbarism to provide the Peshmerga with the heavy weaponry needed to defeat IS and end their reign of savagery through the region.
