Conde Nast Entertainment Launches The New Yorker Video Channel On THESCENE.com
Channel debuts with award-winning short films "Person to Person" and "Me + Her"
Additional short films to be rolled out over the next several weeks
NEW YORK, Dec. 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Conde Nast Entertainment (CNE) today announced the launch of The New Yorker video channel on THE SCENE (www.thescene.com/thenewyorker). Sponsored by HBO, The New Yorker video channel will showcase talented and distinctive voices in filmmaking, bringing viewers a dynamic mix of acclaimed short films and original digital series.
The New Yorker video channel on THE SCENE debuts with Dustin Guy Defa's short film "Person To Person," a festival favorite of audiences and critics. "Person to Person" premiered at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival and continued its success at the 2014 Berlin Film Festival, where it won the DAAD Short Film Award; at SXSW, where it received the Special Jury Award; and at MOMA's New Directors/New Films. Reviewing the film earlier this year, The New Yorker's Richard Brody wrote [http://www.newyorker.com/culture/richard-brody/does-the-cinema-need-short-films]: "'Person to Person" has the ingenious construction and the relaxed discursiveness of a major literary short story, in which a clever situation…provides a crucial cross-section of one man's life and a whole way of life."
Also debuting today on The New Yorker video channel on THE SCENE is the award-winning "Me + Her," directed by Joseph Oxford, a gothic love story meticulously crafted in stop-motion animation. "Me + Her" premiered at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival and won the Best Animation award at the 2014 Aspen Shortsfest.
Rounding out the inaugural film slate is "Yearbook," Bernardo Britto's comedic, bittersweet vision of the near future which won the Grand Jury Prize for Animation at this year's Sundance Film Festival.
