Concha y Toro awarded "International Best Drinks Company of the Year"
SANTIAGO, Chile, June 3, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- At a ceremony held at the London Wine Fair, last May 19, Concha y Toro was awarded 'Best Drinks Company of the Year', in the international category. The recognition is part of Awards 2015, that the prestigious British magazine The Drinks Business gives every year and has become very relevant in the industry. According to the magazine, "This is the big one, coveted by one and all. Under scrutiny are your business development and diversification, sales/profit growth, employee management, new product development, market penetration, brand development and corporate responsibility."
The judges said: "This goes to a company that evidently doesn't like to rest on its laurels. Although the operation broke through the billion-dollar mark for the first time in 2014, it was the investment in a new Centre for Research and Innovation in Chile that particularly impressed the judges. Dedicated to fostering a more sustainable future for the wine industry, this new facility will benefit both our winner, and viticulturists worldwide."
"We are very proud with this important recognition. 2014 was a pivotal year for Concha y Toro as the company managed to regain momentum in sales and profitability by focusing on core brands in each market and investing in a series of heavyweight marketing campaigns to drive brand awareness and engage the consumer on a level new to the wine industry. This nomination highlights the strong global position our company has achieved", said about the award Eduardo Guilisasti, CEO of Concha y Toro.
Center for Research and Innovation
This award highlighted one of the most important initiatives that Concha y Toro has undertaken in the area of sustainability and corporate social responsibility: The Center for Research and Innovation (CRI), located in Chile's Seventh Region.
Representing an initial investment of U.S. $5 million, the CRI is designed to support viticultural research and experiment not only for the benefit of Concha y Toro, but to facilitate a qualitative leap for the entire Chilean wine. It's also a response to the changes and challenges faced by our industry, which at an agricultural and enological level means incorporating new technologies, adapting production systems suited to our reality.
The CRI will become clear progress towards applied research, making a positive impact on the Chilean wine sector and becoming a place of encounter and knowledge exchange between winemakers and researchers.
