Concannon Vineyard Wins Big At 2013 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition
LIVERMORE, Calif., Jan. 29, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Livermore Valley's Concannon Vineyard continues its award-winning tradition by winning ten Gold and Silver medals at the 2013 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition. America's largest wine judging event, the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition is considered to be the premier competition of American wine.
This year marks many milestones in Concannon's rich history as one of the oldest wineries in America. In addition to celebrating its 130th anniversary, 2013 also commemorates 110 years of Cabernet Sauvignon production at Concannon Vineyard. Concannon's role in California's success in Cabernet Sauvignon production became truly historic in the early 1970's when the Concannon Clones 7, 8 & 11 provided the backbone for the huge increase in Cabernet plantings in California's premium wine regions, including Napa Valley's most prestigious vineyards. The winery's celebrated 2008 Mother Vine Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon took home Gold, along with the 2010 Conservancy Cabernet Sauvignon.
"The San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition is one of the most prestigious in the country, so this accomplishment is very exciting for us," said John Concannon fourth-generation vintner. "These awards are always a testament to our commitment to quality and long standing reputation as veteran winemakers. We are especially pleased to receive Golds for our Cabernet Sauvignon. My great-grand father first planted Bordeaux cutting of Cabernet Sauvignon in 1903, and we are proud to still be producing that same wine today."
