With a knockout punch, Fox's "Kung Fu Panda 3" delivered a perfect animated movie option for families around the globe with a solid $116.7 million debut, including $75.7 million of that total coming from the six international territories in which it played this weekend. Fox also continues to enjoy a great box office performance for its awards season favorite, "The Revenant," that is now just shy of $275 million in global revenue, and counting.
Two very solid week-one debuts appeared on our DVD & Blu-Ray Disc Sales chart, with Universal's acclaimed "Straight Outta Compton" entering the chart at number one and Warner Bros.' hit comedy, "The Intern" debuting at four. Sony's "Hotel Transylvania 2" ascended to the top slot of the DVD & Blu-Ray Disc Rentals after debuting in the third spot last week.
On our Digital Movie Purchases and Rentals chart, Fox's Golden Globe® winning film, "The Martian," now in its fourth week of release climbed the charts into the number one position, while Lionsgate's "The Last Witch Hunter," starring Vin Diesel, debuted strong in its first week of release by landing at the number four spot.
Fox's Oscar® Best Picture nominee, "The Martian," remained atop the Movies on Demand chart this week and is followed by Warner Bros.' comedy, "The Intern," starring Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro.
On our Combined Engagement for Broadcast and Cable, Freeform's "Pretty Little Liars" created some relationship hashtags in an Instagram Post asking fans, "which do they like the best?" The photo garnered 268k+ interactions and stirred up some debate between fans.
