Computer Explorers Growth Exploding in the United Kingdom
Technology Education franchisor surges in untapped market
HOUSTON, Nov. 16, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Computer Explorers, a Houston-based technology education franchisor for children, is experiencing rapid growth in Ireland, England and Scotland.
Computer Explorers has opened eight UK franchises so far in 2010 and is expected to double its total franchises by the end of the 2011, said Nigel Toplis, Master Franchisee for Computer Explorers in the UK.
Computer Explorers uses specially designed video games, robots, 3-D worlds and other cutting-edge technology to help children ages 3 to 13 master technology skills at an early age. The extracurricular classes are taught in public and private schools, after-school programs, camps, pre-schools and youth organizations.
The brand operates under the name Computer Explorers in the US and ComputerXplorers in the UK.
"ComputerXplorers is a ground-breaking initiative for the UK," Toplis said. "Not only is there a screaming need for quality technology education for children, the target market is enormous. We have more than 60 million people, 11 million children and over 58,000 nursery, pre-school and primary schools."
Toplis, a leader of the franchising industry in the UK, has twice chaired the British Franchise Association, the only accrediting organization for the UK franchise sector.
"These classes are making a difference in traditional schools that can't always keep technology current or afford to staff specifically trained instructors," Toplis said. "But the students aren't the only ones benefiting. Our franchisees, many of whom have left the corporate world longing for a more meaningful career, find they run a profitable franchise from home and improve children's lives at the same time. It's a win-win, especially in this challenging economy."
The overall franchise industry is booming in the UK, with the number of franchise units increasing by 44 percent over the last decade, according to the British Franchise Association. Franchising in the UK accounts for about 11.8 billion pounds Sterling sales annually.
"We already know that children world-wide have a desperate need to learn advanced technology skills," said Deb Evans, CEO of Computer Explorers. "The question is: How do you reach those children? Computer Explorers unlocks the mystery and magic of technology learning one child at a time. With our interactive approach we help children break through to new levels of insight, understanding, application and creativity."
