SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 25, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Students curious about the world of cybersecurity now have an opportunity to "test drive" a career as a chief information security officer through a new initiative announced here today at RSA 2014 by CompTIA, the leading non-profit association for the information technology (IT) industry, and LifeJourney™.
LifeJourney is a web-based interactive class in which students learn about careers in cybersecurity by experiencing a day in the life of the nation's cybersecurity leaders.
Each day-in-the-life segment features a top executive from a leading company. Companies select a subject matter expert from their company to serve as a LifeJourney Mentor, an industry guide and role model for tens of thousands of students.
Malcolm Harkins, vice president and chief security and privacy officer at Intel Corporation, is featured in the chief information security officer (CISO) LifeJourney.
"Cybersecurity is one of the most important issues facing our country and our world. Inspiring students to pursue this important STEM career is one of the best ways to advance education and protect our nation," Harkins remarked.
In the CISO LifeJourney, students will experience each of 20 critical security controls, such as digital forensics, malware and incident response. Upon completion, they receive a Cyber Resume with detailed reports on the skills they'll need to achieve that career, including industry credentials such as CompTIA Network+ and CompTIA Security+ certifications.
"Security credentials are at or near the top of the most in-demand skills sought by employers," said Terry Erdle, executive vice president, skills certification, CompTIA. "By building their Cyber Resumes today, students will be well on their way to earning valued industry certifications and securing future employment in this fast-growing field."
With nearly 1.8 million certifications awarded worldwide, CompTIA is the largest provider of vendor-neutral certifications for IT professionals. Visit CompTIA Certifications to learn more.
