Downers Grove, Ill., June 9, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- CompTIA, the IT industry trade association, said today its certification program has surpassed another milestone. CompTIA has awarded more than two million certifications to individuals around the world.
"This significant accomplishment attests to the relevance and value that our certifications continue to bring to the IT workforce," said Todd Thibodeaux, president and CEO, CompTIA.
"People rely on our certifications to help them start and advance in their careers," Thibodeaux continued. "Organizations count on CompTIA certified IT professionals to maximize their investments in technology solutions. Educational institutions and governments around the world use our certification standards to build an IT-ready workforce."
CompTIA launched its skills certification program in 1993 with the introduction of CompTIA A+, originally designed as a standardized credential for computer repair technicians.
As technology evolved over the next two-plus decades, so has the CompTIA certification portfolio.
CompTIA A+ has been revised, updated and expanded to maintain its standing as the cutting-edge, must-have credential for people taking their first steps into the IT workforce.
Responding to industry requests for other vendor-neutral credentials, CompTIA developed additional certifications for other technology skills – in networking, security, servers, Linux administration, project management, cloud computing, mobile technologies and other areas.
"Throughout the life of this program, each of our certifications has been created by the IT industry for the IT industry," Thibodeaux noted. "Many people have helped us reach this milestone, starting with the CompTIA A+ originators and continuing with the subject matter experts who help keep our certifications current and relevant. We're also grateful for the support of our academic, content, government and training partners; and the hundreds of thousands of IT professionals who use our certifications as a mark of skills mastery."
The Value of IT Certifications
IT certifications are growing in importance in the eyes of hiring managers and human resources (HR) professionals, according to the findings of the March 2015 CompTIA study HR Perceptions of IT Training and Certification.
Two-thirds of HR executives surveyed said IT certifications are very valuable, while 94 percent expect the importance of IT certifications to grow over the next two years.
HR professionals believe having IT job candidates with industry certifications saves time and resources in evaluating applicants, ensures a candidate's credibility and demonstrates that they have a baseline set of knowledge.
Once hired, certified IT professionals get up to speed more quickly; are more likely to stay with the organization long term; have a higher likelihood of being promoted; and generally perform better than non-certified IT staff, according to the study.
CompTIA has four IT certification series that test different knowledge standards, from entry-level to expert. Visit http://certification.comptia.org/getCertified/certifications.aspx to learn more.
