ComponentOne Releases Excel-compatible Spreadsheet Components for WPF and Silverlight
Add Embedded Excel Functionality to WPF and Silverlight Applications with ComponentOne Spread WPF-Silverlight
PITTSBURGH, Sept. 4, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- ComponentOne, a division of GrapeCity, the largest component solution provider in the Microsoft Visual Studio Partner Ecosystem, has announced the release of Spread WPF-Silverlight. Released as a Community Technology Preview (CTP) this past February, the product suite for Spread includes a WPF (Windows Presentation Foundation) spreadsheet control and a Silverlight spreadsheet control. Both of these controls allow developers to develop feature-rich user interfaces by embedding the functionality found in Microsoft® Excel® into their WPF and Silverlight applications.
"Each of the components for WPF and Silverlight may be dropped on a Microsoft Visual Studio project form and customized for a wide range of applications," said Sean Lawyer, product manager at ComponentOne. "Users may customize the appearance and the user interaction in a variety of ways and by using the built-in Designer, they can quickly create a prototype or, based on input, customize it to create the finished design," continued Lawyer.
Lawyer further elaborated, "Given that the Spread product uses an extensible set of classes, developers are able to provide users access to multiple and customized sheets, with predefined sheet styles. Plus, with a built-in designer, developers are able to design a template and then apply it back to Spread in Microsoft Visual Studio at design time, so no code is ever needed."
With the recent availability of Visual Studio 2012, Spread WPF-Silverlight fully supports the latest version of Microsoft's IDE, including the style and user-interface enhancements. The increased awareness and desire for data visualization has led to the introduction of a new data bar and icon set options in this release of Spread. "Our users can let their data tell a story given the enhanced data visualization support in Spread," said Lawyer. "From recognizing trends to isolating out-of-range values, everyone can gain a picture-clear understanding of the data."
In a blog post titled, "Spread WPF and Spread Silverlight 1.0.4.0 Released!," Lawyer details other enhancements in this release of Spread, including:
- New Custom Drawing Object API for easily adding controls in cells
- Enhanced SplitBoxPolicy for automatic hiding of the split box after the sheet is split
- Enhanced user keyboard input handling to move the active cell when navigation keys are pressed in edit mode
- Enhanced IME support to handle entering edit mode using IME
- More real world samples including 1040 tax form, student calendar, profit/loss projection, and database records operation form
A key feature developers look for when evaluating controls is royalty-free, run-time distribution. Lawyer shared that, "The licensing model for Spread WPF-Silverlight is per developer seat, allowing the developer to create as many applications as he/she likes using the control, often referred to as run-time, royalty-free licensing." The ComponentOne (EULA) End-User License Agreement is available at www.componentone.com for further details.
