ComponentOne Releases ActiveReports 9 with a New Layers Feature and Visual Query Designer
Generate Quality Reports for All Business Needs with the ActiveReports 9 .NET Reporting Platform
PITTSBURGH, Nov. 5, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- ComponentOne a division of GrapeCity, the largest component solution provider in the Microsoft Visual Studio Partner ecosystem, today announced the release of ActiveReports 9. ActiveReports 9 is an empowering .NET reporting solution that integrates with Microsoft Visual Studio.
"ActiveReports 9 offers its users an array of data visualization, server and designer capabilities for HTML5, Windows Presentation Foundation, Windows Forms, ASP.NET and Windows Azure development," said Bhupesh Malhotra, product manager at ComponentOne. "For this latest release of ActiveReports we focused on enhancing the product's performance, ease of use and customization capabilities," said Malhotra.
One of the new features in ActiveReports 9 is the ability to easily export or print different groups of controls with a new feature called Layers. When designing a report with ActiveReports 9, rather than creating multiple report layouts users can create layers in a single report layout with chosen groups of controls on each layer. Users then have the ability to send these individual layers to different outputs. "Layers is an empowering reporting feature not found in other products, in that you can create one report layout with multiple layers and send these layers to print, export to PDF or just to the viewer," said Malhotra.
ActiveReports now includes a drag and drop control which allows users to display a Table of Contents (TOC) in the body of a report. The TOC can be created with heading levels, bookmarks, or groups and it updates page numbers on-the-fly. "This is one example of how we have improved the user experience by making navigation quick and easy in ActiveReports 9," stated Malhotra.
When designing queries and handling SQL statements, ActiveReports 9 now has a Visual Query Designer featuring simple drag and drop interaction for users unfamiliar with SQL to easily create, edit and design reports. "We created our new Visual Query Designer so users may visualize what a query should look like and added the option for executing the query for previewing the data to confirm it is accurate before saving the query to the dataset," said Malhotra
Design time performance enhancements in the new ActiveReports 9 allows users to now work with multiple report controls in one complex report with as much ease as using a few controls in simple reports. Further, the report designers now include features for independent control of rounded corners in shapes and mouse controlled resize handlers for overflow areas in Page Reports, among other improvements.
The ActiveReports 9 release includes other key highlights, including a new Excel Rendering Engine with precise layout accuracy and faster export times,HTML5 viewer enhancements and improvements in the product's reporting run time engine for improved performance and smaller memory footprints.
