ComponentOne 2011 v3 Release Offers New .NET Controls and Extends ADO.NET Entity Framework
Add New Controls Like Gauges, HTML5 Charts, and an Editor in Business Intelligence Applications
PITTSBURGH, Nov. 17, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- ComponentOne, a leader in developer-productivity tools for building enterprise-level applications for the desktop, Web, and mobile devices, today released Studio Enterprise 2011 v3. In this third release of 2011 for Studio Enterprise, a suite of data and UI controls for Microsoft Visual Studio, ComponentOne marks its place as the first control vendor to offer a solution that extends the Entity Framework.
First introduced as a CTP this past summer, Studio for Entity Framework is now included in Studio Enterprise. The Entity Framework offering from ComponentOne adds ease-of-use and performance enhancements to the ADO.NET Entity Framework and RIA Services.
Greg Lutz, product manager at ComponentOne shared in his blog post that, "Our design-time components make it easy for any level of .NET developer to work with Entity Framework and the virtual mode feature improves performance for even the largest dataset." Lutz also shared, "Working across three platforms, WinForms, Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) and Silverlight, the built in smart client caching in our Entity Framework product speeds up the development of typical line of business applications and allows developers to write less code to achieve their goal."
"Entity Framework is Microsoft's recommended data modeling technology for new applications," said Robin Cole, senior director of Visual Studio Integration Partners for Microsoft Corp. "We're very pleased to be working with outstanding VSIP partners, such as ComponentOne, offering products to enhance the framework by providing additional functionality and seeking to improve the overall user experience."
The company also debuted new Web UI controls in its Studio for ASP.NET Wijmo suite, also part of Studio Enterprise. The new HTML5 Gauge controls powered by Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) and Wijmo, ComponentOne's HTML5 and jQuery Framework, gives developers the exact graphical representation they need with easy customization, built-in animation, transitions, themes, and tooltips.
For those who value the abilities of a rich text editor, ComponentOne has ported Editor for ASP.NET to be HTML5 and JavaScript-compliant by using Wijmo. It features the same powerful editor surface with Design, Code, and Split views, while also boasting a Microsoft Word-style Ribbon with built-in spell-checking.
ComponentOne expanded their HTML5 chart collection in this release with the addition of Area, Bubble, Composite, and Scatter chart types. Each of the HTML5 chart types offer interactive features like animations, transitions, and tooltips. The new Composite Chart control allows developers to easily create dashboards on a single chart surface. The same data can be overlayed with different visualizations or related data can be displayed together to convey trends. Most importantly, these charts render perfectly in older browsers like IE6 without any loss in quality and can even be used on mobile devices like iPads and iPhones.
A requirement for many developers is the ability to create reports and by popular demand ComponentOne Reports™ for .NET Designer Edition now joins Studio for WinForms and Studio Enterprise. Developers now have unlimited redistribution rights of the C1ReportDesigner application and the components used within. The C1ReportDesigner provides Microsoft Access-like report creation and design through a familiar user interface. Formerly only available through ComponentOne Reports for .NET Designer Edition, developers can now modify and distribute the C1ReportDesigner application royalty free.
The ComponentOne website lists another new product, named ComponentOne Ultimate, which is described as the ultimate tool to build line-of-business and data analysis applications on the desktop and Web. This prized package not only delivers hundreds of .NET controls plus powerful OLAP data analysis controls, it also includes SharePoint Web Parts, documentation and screen capturing tools, LightSwitch extensions, and tools for ADO.NET Entity Framework and RIA Services.
The prize ComponentOne is referring to is its recent ranking as Champion in Info-Tech Research Group's recently published Application Development Tools Vendor Landscape report.
Randy Hearn, Senior Research Analyst from Info-Tech Research Group, said, "The report, which evaluated several vendors in the application development space, assessed vendors by the strength of their offering and their strategy for the enterprise.
