Complex Mass Tort Judges & Leading Litigators Gather in New York April 17, 2015
NEW YORK, March 11, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- On April 17, 2015, HB Litigation Conferences will present the fifth annual "Mass Torts Judicial Forum with Hon. Marina Corodemus (ret.)," a day-long legal education conference where many of the nation's most respected litigation practitioners – those who represent both plaintiffs and defendants – will share their insights from the litigation trenches, HB Managing Director Tom Hagy announced today.
"We are proud to introduce the newest addition to our truly preeminent faculty – Judge Richard A. Kramer from the San Francisco Superior Court, Complex Civil Litigation Department," Hagy said. Judge Kramer handles a variety of complex matters such as auto claims, hip implants, drug liability, and consumer fraud. He is also known for his 2005 decision reversing California's Proposition 22, a ballot initiative that had banned same-sex marriage.
Judge Kramer joins the panel, along with Judge Rebecca F. Doherty, U.S. Judge for the Western District of Louisiana. Judge Doherty is presiding over the Actos MDL there, which last year produced a $9 billion jury verdict following a bellwether trial. According to Mealey's Litigation Reports, the judge found the punitive damage award excessive, and reduced it to just under $37 million.
Program founder Judge Corodemus (ret.) heads a nationwide private mediation and special master practice, which was preceded by a decade as New Jersey's sole mass tort judge. "Now in its fifth year, Judge Corodemus' event has quickly risen to become one of the most respected legal education events in the country. The hallmarks of her programs are the carefully selected topics, the stellar speakers, the balanced viewpoints, and the participation of sitting and former judges, including Judge Corodemus herself," Hagy said.
