Compete Releases Ranking of Top 50 Web Sites for February 2010
Olympics Dominate Online Interest but NASCAR Loyalists Can't be Swayed
BOSTON, March 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Compete, a Kantar Media company, today released its ranking of the top 50 Web sites for February 2010. As expected, the 2010 Winter Olympics dominated Web traffic for the month; however, hockey and curling weren't the only sports that drove consumers online. Compete's "Motorsports" category led the month's top movers with 6,253,691 unique visitors (UVs) logging on in February to get the latest stats on NASCAR and other motorsports.

Vancouver, home to this year's 2010 Winter Olympic Games, was also responsible for February's most dramatic traffic increase. NBColympics.com, the official site for the games on the Web, saw a total of 10,358,950 UVs in February, a 2,239 percent increase over January 2010, making it the fastest moving site for the month. Despite the Olympics' popularity Compete's "Motorsports" category was February's top moving site, with a 69 percent month-over-month traffic increase from January. The data underscores that, even with the marketing blitz surrounding the Games, fans of NASCAR and other motorsports remained loyal to the sites in this category. Publishers and advertisers marketing to this consumer demographic should take note of this data, particularly when planning future campaigns that coincide with highly publicized events.
Shopping for Spring
The impending arrival of Spring sent consumers online during the month of February to seek out the latest deals on clothes, gadgets and more. Discount retailers Walmart.com (30,326,513 UVs) and Target.com (27,143,605 UVs) were both among the month's top sites. Rounding out the retail category, amazon.com (76,125,350 UVs), ebay.com (70,217,274 UVs) and bestbuy.com (17,584,174 UVs) were all among the month's highest trafficked sites.
