Community Health Partnership Awarded $111,897 Grant to Combat Opioid Misuse and Abuse in El Paso County
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., Feb. 21, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Community Health Partnership (CHP), a coalition of more than 25 health care provider organizations in southern Colorado, has been awarded a 12-month grant from the Colorado Health Foundation. The grant will support a community readiness assessment and action plan concerning opioid misuse and abuse in the local community.
Because the opioid epidemic is population-based, the project will solicit input from community stakeholders representing a variety of sectors. Proposed activities include the completion of a Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT) analysis, development of three to four potential community-based solutions, and a cost-benefit analysis of the potential solutions.
"Receiving this grant to conduct a community readiness assessment will help identify our community's capacities and gaps in being able to address the opioid epidemic, guide the coalition to work within our community's culture, and level of readiness to come up with actions that are right for our community," said Mary Steiner, BSN, RN, Community Projects and Pilots Manager for CHP. "It will also aid in securing funding, cooperating with other organizations, and working with community leaders to achieve the common goal of reducing overdose deaths."
The funding received will allow CHP to continue to refine and advance their existing community needs assessment through a process of reflective stages and participatory inquiry in order to coalesce the community's energy and passion concerning opioid use into a cohesive action plan.
