Communities Unite During Final Push in National Recycling Challenge
Fifty Communities Across the U.S. Recycle for Chance to Win $100,000 Grant from SC Johnson
RACINE, Wis., Nov. 8, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- With just two months remaining in the SC Johnson Green Choices Recycling Challenge, residents in communities across the country are rallying for the chance to receive a $100,000 grant from SC Johnson to be used for a sustainability project or program. The Challenge, which kicked-off in July, is a nationwide program encouraging residents in 50 communities, one per state, to achieve the highest reported recycling participation rate. One winning community will be announced in January 2013.

Developed by SC Johnson and Recyclebank®, the six-month program aims to inspire waste reduction and increase recycling efforts while educating local residents on the importance of everyday, sustainable actions. Community initiatives to support the Challenge have ranged from a local library in Russellville, Ark., that hosted a Green Night for Kids to a 12-year-old student in Indian Harbour, Fla., who volunteered to lead his class in promoting community-wide recycling.
"It's inspiring to see residents in each of the 50 participating communities take action to make real positive environmental changes during the SC Johnson Green Choices Recycling Challenge," said Kelly M. Semrau, Senior Vice President of Global Corporate Affairs, Communication & Sustainability at SC Johnson. "As a family company, we believe that small behavior changes, such as communities coming together to recycle, could have an extraordinary impact."
