Communication-Skills-Based Job Prep Program Boosts Confidence In Nailing The Interview
SAN DIEGO, Sept. 4, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- We just celebrated Labor Day, when hard-working adults look forward to a day off. Unfortunately, many don't have jobs that offer paid vacation, as they don't know how to demonstrate what they have to offer to an employer, which starts with the interview process. Job Search Success (JSS), a component of the federal-grant-funded R3 Academy program for fathers, offered by Relationship Education non-profit Healthy Relationships California (HRC), coaches participants through the fundamental communication skills that help them nail job interviews.
"In the short span that it has been offered, pre- and post-tests from JSS show participants having increased confidence they can secure a new job," reports R3 Academy Director and HRC Vice President K. Jason Krafsky.
Outcome data collected from 400 R3 Academy participants over the past year indicate a minimum 10% increase in:
- knowing where to find job openings;
- knowing how to apply for a job;
- feeling confident in interviewing skills;
- feeling confident in conducting an effective search for a job they want.
HRC President Patty Howell emphasizes, "As we teach dads communication skills that improve at-work readiness, these skills multiply the benefits they gain from our job-search skills program and help them excel after they are hired!"
In the words of R3 Academy participants:
I have a job, but I want to get a better job. The résumé guidance and templates I received in the Job Search Success sessions will help me improve my résumé a lot.
This program has given me the tool to listen, to advise, to help my own family, in difficult situations, also to find the way to get a good job. (translated from Spanish)
Being a good listener at work has helped me create better relationships at work.
As a father himself, Krafsky takes pride in helping dads succeed in the workplace and earn the luxury of a paid day of rest on Labor Day.
