Commonwealth to Promote Public Safety Jobs during Career Day Event in Philadelphia
HARRISBURG, Pa., May 24 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In an effort to recruit qualified individuals, including women and minorities, for important jobs in public safety, the Pennsylvania State Police and the Office of Administration will host a "Public Safety Career Day" on Thursday, May 27, in Philadelphia.
Officials hope to attract individuals who are motivated by a desire to serve their communities.
"Pennsylvania offers great career opportunities for those who are committed to service and looking for ways to develop both personally and professionally," said Maj. Charles J. Skurkis. "We're encouraging interested applicants to consider providing a vital service to the community and a stable future for their families."
The event will be held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on May 27 at Hamilton Disston Elementary School, 6801 Cottage St. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the role Pennsylvania's public safety agencies play in their community and how to become a part of the commitment to service.
Agency representatives will discuss the benefits of working for the commonwealth and share first-hand knowledge of what it's like to serve in a public safety position. Some of these positions include corrections officers, state troopers, welfare fraud and claims investigators and parole agents.
Representatives from several commonwealth agencies will attend the event, including the Pennsylvania State Police; Board of Probation and Parole; Office of Inspector General; Department of Corrections, and the State Civil Service Commission.
State police vehicles, including a marked patrol car, the department's mobile recruitment office, and motorcycles will be on display.
