NEW YORK, Aug. 7, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Math Solutions®, a leader in K-12 mathematics instruction and professional development for educators, today announced five new book titles that will help educators get ready for the Common Core State Standards. The five new titles focus on key instructional strategies that support the new mathematics standards such as ensuring students have a deep understanding of math concepts, develop critical foundational math skills, and are ready for algebra by grade 9. "With the arrival of the Common Core standards, educators across the country are taking a closer look at their instructional practices to ensure they're helping every student meet these new, more rigorous expectations," said Patricio Dujan, VP and General Manager of Math Solutions. "At Math Solutions we've been transforming math instruction for almost thirty years. Now the same strategies and methods we use for developing student proficiency are embodied in the Common Core. These new books dive even deeper into some of the teaching techniques that will help students meet the more rigorous standards and get on the path to college and career readiness."
The new titles are available on the Math Solutions website www.mathsolutions.com.
Solving for Why offers educators the tools and guidance essential for successfully "solving for why" students struggle with mathematics. The step-by-step, RTI (Response to Intervention)-like approaches, focused on assessment and communication with students, help teachers gain insight into student understanding in a remarkably different way than recipe-type approaches that assume the same solution applies to learners with similar struggles.
Through an exciting multimedia format, Teaching Preschool and Kindergarten Math takes readers into an early childhood classroom for a seeing-is-believing look at how to create a focused, successful mathematics program while simultaneously deepening knowledge of the mathematical ideas that need to be developed at an early age. This resource features 26 video segments (a total viewing time of 50 minutes), and more than 150 lessons and investigations.
From Building a "Wacky Hundreds Chart" to "Number Chart Bingo!," the twenty classroom-tested lessons and games in this resource transform the hundreds chart from a poster on the classroom wall into a hands-on, interactive tool used by teachers and students. Working with the hundreds chart helps learners develop the skills they need to become flexible and fluent problem solvers and meet the requirements of the Common Core State Standards. This resource is the second book in the It Makes Sense! series.
It's All Connected: The Power of Representation to Build Algebraic Reasoning, the second book in the It's All Connected series focuses on the power of representation to build algebraic reasoning. It offers a collection of forty quick lessons (each takes less than 30 minutes). The lessons feature creative exercises that illustrate key concepts associated with graphical representations of functions, reproducible pages on which students can record their work, and correlations to the Common Core State Standards.
Number Talks: Reproducible Dot Images and Five- and Ten-Frames by Sherry Parrish (K-5)
At teachers' request, these downloadables contain more than 250 reproducibles pulled from Chapter 4 of the award winning Number Talks resource. The user-friendly resource provides immediate use formats for educators on "K-2 Dot Images" and "Five- and Ten-Frames."
