Commission to Release New Bipartisan Reforms to Improve Political Process and Strengthen U.S. Democracy
Commission Co-chairs Tom Daschle, Trent Lott, Olympia Snowe and Dan Glickman will make remarks and take questions
WASHINGTON, June 12, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Bipartisan Policy Center's Commission on Political Reform will release Governing in a Polarized America: A Bipartisan Blueprint to Strengthen our Democracy, a report that contains a series of concrete recommendations to help improve the political process in an era of divided government and partisan gridlock. The report will be released on Tuesday, June 24, at 10:00AM ET at the Newseum.
Former Senate Majority Leaders Tom Daschle and Trent Lott, former Senator Olympia Snowe and former Secretary Dan Glickman – all co-chairs of the commission - will unveil the report's recommendations and take questions.
The commission will call for specific reforms in three areas: the electoral process, the process by which Congress legislates and manages its own affairs and how Americans can engage in civic life through public service. Over the past 18 months, the 29 commissioners have engaged the American public as part of their deliberations. The reforms recommended by the commission take into account the political divisions that define our country, and the political imperatives that influence policymakers.
