Commercial Metals Company Supports a Global Standard to Measure and Report Carbon Emissions
IRVING, Texas, Aug. 3, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- As a founding member of the Global Steel Climate Council (GSCC), Commercial Metals Company (NYSE: CMC) ("CMC") is proud to support today's release of The Steel Climate Standard, a global standard to measure and report steel carbon emissions.
The Standard provides a clear path to achieving emissions targets as laid out by the Paris Climate Agreement, while offering a single, technology-agnostic protocol that would apply to all steel producers globally. The Standard represents a transparent reporting system that would enable customers, and other stakeholders, to know and compare carbon emissions intensity across products and producers.
"The steel industry needs to be a meaningful participant in the efforts to reduce GHG emissions and the GSCC provides a simple and transparent Standard that will help guide us toward decarbonization," said Barbara R. Smith, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer.
