TORONTO, Aug. 24, 2011 /PRNewswire/ - Broadcast live on Wednesday, September 7, at 8 p.m. (8:30 p.m. NT) on CBC Television, the 26th ANNUAL GEMINI AWARDS will bring together the hottest stars from television, film and music to celebrate Canadian television - and now in more ways than ever before. For the first time, the live Geminis festivities will extend to the web with a live, one-hour digital companion to the television broadcast: The Tom Green Room.
Beginning at 7 p.m. ET (7:30 p.m. NT), Comedian Tom Green will host the official Gemini Awards livestream, The Tom Green Room. Featuring live interviews with celebs and a slew of inevitable backstage shenanigans and tweet-worthy moments, The Tom Green Room will offer fans a spontaneous and entertaining look at what really goes on behind the scenes at the Geminis. The Tom Green Room will stream live for one hour beginning at 7:00 p.m. ET (7:30 p.m. NT) at cbc.ca/live and will be available On Demand as a digital companion to the live broadcast of the 26th ANNUAL GEMINI AWARDS at 8 p.m. ET (8:30 p.m. NT) on CBC Television. The 26th ANNUAL GEMINI AWARDS will also feature an all-new interactive component, offering fans the chance to become an official Gemini Awards presenter. Multiple Gemini Award-winner George Stroumboulopoulos is calling on fans to submit video tributes to their favorite Gemini nominees for 'Best Comedy Series or Program'. The most creative video entries will be featured in the Gemini Awards broadcast and participants will also have a shot at winning a celebrity swag bag. As previously announced by CBC and the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television, global comedy star Russell Peters will host the television broadcast of the 26th ANNUAL GEMINI AWARDS. Joining Peters as the "voice of the show" is Gemini Award-winning actress Ingrid Kavelaars, who isnominated this year for 'Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Supporting Role in a Comedic Series' for her work on TV's Living in Your Car.
The star-studded celebration of the best in Canadian television will be broadcast live on Wednesday, September 7 at 8 p.m. (8:30 NT) on CBC Television from the CBC Broadcast Centre in Toronto. Special musical performances and celebrity presenters will be announced in the coming weeks.
