CHICAGO, June 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Working around the clock through the Father's Day weekend, ComEd crews have restored 99 percent of the 550,000 customers affected by Friday's storms. The remaining 4,300 customers are expected to be restored tonight and tomorrow.

"We've made tremendous progress and expect to have all customers restored a day earlier than originally estimated," said Anne Pramaggiore, ComEd President and COO. "Once every customer is restored, our crews will focus their efforts on making long-term repairs to return the electric system to maximum efficiency and reliability."
More than 350 field crews remain active in the field. Friday's storms rank among the five most damaging events in the last 12 years and the most destructive since August 2008 when about 600,000 customers were left without service.
Restoration efforts for the last remaining customers unfortunately take longer because these outages typically either affect a small number of customers or require repairs in difficult to access areas.
ComEd has maintained a strong presence in the hardest hit communities. ComEd executives and staff are making door-to-door contact with customers, visiting local offices and officials, and contacting residential and commercial customers in targeted communities to ensure that the company has identified any issues that could delay restoration.
"While our crews were able to restore customers in record time, we recognize that this is difficult for customers who remain without service," said Pramaggiore. "We want to assure them that we have all of our available resources dedicated to the restoration effort.
ComEd is also following forecasts of additional storms over the next two days that could slow restoration of the remaining customers and add new outages.
Customers remaining without service should contact ComEd to ensure that the company is aware of their outage or to obtain an update on the status of their outage by calling 800-EDISON-1. Spanish-speaking customers can call 1-800-95-LUCES (1-800-955-8237).
Commonwealth Edison Company (ComEd) is a unit of Chicago-based Exelon Corporation (NYSE: EXC), one of the nation's largest electric utilities with approximately 5.2 million customers. ComEd provides service to approximately 3.8 million customers across Northern Illinois, or 70 percent of the state's population.
